10 Foods that Rock our Tastebuds
Last month the WeightWatchers.com editors attended the Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center in New York City. Here are our top picks.
Twice a year, manufacturers, distributors and purveyors gather to show off the latest and greatest in specialty foods and beverages. We tasted artisanal cheeses, packaged snack foods, flavored vinegars, chutneys, olive oils and ethnic ingredients — to name a few — from around the world.
For two days we walked the expo floor to find the most delicious healthy foods and drinks to share with you. Here are our picks:

Roasted Red Pepper & Onion Dip & Relish from Richard Rothschild Farm
With less emphasis on the tomato flavor of a traditional salsa, this chunky zero POINTS® value dip is slightly sweet with a peppery kick. Try it with your favorite chips or even over broiled fish or chicken.
Frontier Flapjack and Waffle Mix from Baker Mills Kodiak Cakes
Because they’re made with whole wheat flour, they feel more filling than your typical flapjacks. And because all you have to add is water, what you see on the label is — nutritionally — what you get: 1 POINTS value per 4-inch cake. Topped with some fresh fruit, light whipped topping or sugar-free maple syrup, we think this is a great way to start your day.
Chocolatemint Water from Metromint
Let’s face it. “Refreshing” and “chocolatey” are two words that usually don’t go together. But Metromint’s Chocolatemint Water is decidedly both. If you want a quick chocolate fix without going off track, this zero POINTS value treat is the way to go. We were hesitant at first, but the cocoa essence and fresh mint oil combine to cool you down while feeling just a little decadent.
Whole Grain Crispbreads from 34°
These Crispbreads from 34° are, first and foremost, zero POINTS values per 9-cracker serving. With a delicate but wheaty, wafer-like texture, they can be paired with anything from cured meats and light cheeses to peanut butter and jelly.
Fully Cooked Frozen Quinoa from Village Harvest
Straight from your microwave in less than two minutes, Village Harvest’s fully cooked frozen quinoa is a quick alternative to the dry variety — not to mention you won’t have to wash a pot afterwards. A perfect toothsome texture makes it a welcome change from rice, while being just as versatile. Try adding cilantro, dried cranberries and a dash of olive oil, salt and pepper for a unique side dish.
Soy Whip from Soyatoo
This whippable soy topping is dairy free and vegan, but you’d never know it. Made with coconut oil and natural vanilla extract, you can use this zero POINTS values-per-serving treat as a topping for dessert, or for a low-calorie chocolate mousse or cake frosting.
Freshly Frozen Garlic & Herbs from Dorot
We love these pre-portioned trays of frozen garlic and herbs for many reasons: You can keep them in your freezer for up to 24 months; you don’t have to chop them; and you’ll never have waste from herbs that go bad. Our favorite is crushed garlic but you can also make a quick pesto with the chopped basil, a pico de gallo with the chopped cilantro or a stir fry with the crushed ginger.
Cranberry Hazelnut Raincoast Crisps by Leslie Stowe
These chunky crisps look a little more like sliced bread than a cracker. They come in a variety of flavors like Rosemary Raisin Pecan and Fig and Olive, but our favorite is the Cranberry Hazelnut. Great for the holidays — and all year round — these are great for entertaining. Top them with a soft cheese or your favorite dip or tapenade.
Whole Wheat Pearl Couscous by Rice Select
With more fiber than your typical white couscous, this whole wheat mini-pasta is a smarter choice. Top it with olives, feta cheese and rosemary for a quick side dish, or make it the main event mixed with sliced chicken breast and your favorite veggies.
Baked MultiGrain Real Cheddar Cheese Puffed Curls by Jax
When you get the munchies, sometimes there’s nothing better than cheese. But often, a giant slice of cheddar or a serving of cheesy tortilla chips seems like too much of a splurge. These baked crunchy snacks will satisfy your queso craving for 3 POINTS values.
