Dress For Your New Body Shape

Investing in some gorgeous new outfits when you lose weight is a well-deserved treat. Read our tips for making the most of your new shape.

Losing weight can be the best feeling in the world – you’re looking great, feeling more confident and your energy levels are high. You want to show off your new figure but you’re stuck with a wardrobe full of clothes that fit the old you!

Even if you haven’t yet reached your goal weight, it’s still a good idea to invest in a few key pieces that will fit you well while you’re losing weight and flatter your newly developing physique. A new look can even give you that extra burst of enthusiasm you need to lose those last few pounds!

  • Buy some new undies – boobs can be one of the first places you loose weight and you may have dropped a cup size or two without even realizing! If that is the case, B cup boobs in a D cup bra will be doing you no favors.

Get yourself measured properly as a well-fitting bra will not only lift your bust, it will also trim down your tummy and whittle away your waist. This will set you up with a great foundation for your new wardrobe.

  • Invest in new jeans – nothing hides a trim tush better than a pair of baggy, saggy jeans. If you’re still losing weight, try Gap, Express or Old Navy for a slim-fitting, figure-enhancing boot-cut style at a reasonable price. The slim fit will tone down your thighs, and the boot flare will help to balance out your hips and butt.

If you’re at your ideal weight, think about investing in a really great pair of designer jeans such as Lucky or Seven – these are made specifically to make your bum look perkier than Jessica Biel's!

  • A good set of basic T-shirts and tanks in the new season’s colors. These are a cheap and easy way to update your wardrobe.

Make sure the tops fit you perfectly; they shouldn’t be too tight, they should skim your torso. Try on different necklines to find the one(s) that is most flattering for you. And opt for colours that make your skin glow and your eyes sparkle.

As well as plain tops, look for tops that have design details such as pin tucked sleeves or bold stripes, as these are an easy way to jazz up your outfit. Buy T-shirts and tanks that have a high Lycra content as they will smooth down any bumps, flatten tummies and shrink with you!

  • A well-fitting dress will see you through many occasions. Think about your lifestyle to work out what style of dress you want. If you want a daytime dress, consider a jersey wrap dress. One in a bold pattern will distract from any tummy or butt that you still want to disguise, and you’ll be able to dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

If you’re after a smarter look, consider a shirt dress or a fitted shift. Belted styles or those with an empire waist will help to lift your bust and smooth down your tummy.
  • Draped or wrap tops are another great buy. They’re very versatile to wear, and, as they are not size specific, you’ll get a lot of wear out of them as you’re losing weight. They’re also great for dressing up basics! Chico's and Banana Republic have a good range of loose, drapey cardigans, and Ann Taylor and department stores like Bloomingdales and Dillards always carry a selection of wrap tops.

  • New accessories are the ultimate way to perk up a basic outfit. Try a great colored scarf or a statement necklace. It’s easy, and you can change your look without breaking the bank!
