"Spend time now, save time later. I divide my dry food into portion sizes and put it into resealable bags right after I get home from the grocery store."

Before signing up for Weight Watchers Online, Taysha would hover in the background at parties, watching other people having fun. Now that she's 72 pounds* lighter than she used to be, she's the first one to hit the dance floor. My fat wardrobe was depressing — big shirts and loose-fitting jeans. Now I live in tight jeans, skirts and tank tops. When my girlfriends and I go out, I'm no longer alone in the corner feeling self-conscious. My confidence shows. I get asked to dance — a lot!
She lost it online
All my life I was big. You name the fad diet, I tried it. I decided to sign up for Weight Watchers Online and start following the POINTS® Weight-Loss System after a doctor told me that I was actually obese. The remark hurt my feelings, but it was the catalyst I needed to get serious about getting healthy.
I'm a computer nerd so doing the plan online suited my personality. I boot up both at home and at work so I have access to WeightWatchers.com 24/7. Despite the hours and hours I've spent on the site, I still haven't hit half the wealth of information that's available. There are great articles about exercise, body fat percentage and innovative ways to work out.
I adore the POINTS Tracker. It helps me figure out my daily food and activity POINTS values. For a smorgasbord of food choices, I check out the Recipe Builder. And the Community section is a great place to bounce ideas off other dieters. I get fabulous tips on things like spreading low-fat sour cream instead of butter on a baked potato.
Praise and feedback
It's important to have feedback. Whenever I achieved a mini-goal my computer screen would flash: "Congrats, you've lost 5 lbs." I'd feel proud and do something to pamper myself like get a manicure. I had both my computer buddies and those in real life egging me on. But my biggest motivator was myself. Without the help of my own willpower and ability to turn on a computer, I wouldn't have made it through!
Taysha's Tips:
- Weigh yourself just once a week. If you constantly step on the scale you'll be discouraged by fluctuations that may be only water weight.
- Be positive. Say "when" not "if" I lose 5 pounds.
- Write the POINTS value of a food on the outside of the bag. This way everything is organized and ready, whether it's cereal, pretzels or turkey for turkey burgers.
- For baking, use 0-POINTS-value cooking spray instead of vegetable oil. The spray can also be substituted for butter on corn on the cob.
- Calculate your POINTS values before you eat them. I'd rather know I'm allowing myself 10 chips as an after-dinner treat instead of later asking, "Whoops, how many POINTS values did I just have?"
- Don't be afraid to ask for help, not just from people on plan, but from friends, family and co-workers.
