Already on the computer all day every day, Dale found that Weight Watchers Online was the perfect fit for her lifestyle makeover. The worst consequence of being overweight was the way I felt. My family and husband loved me for who I was, but I was disappointed in myself. With two children at home, I didn’t feel like I was much of a role model if I wasn’t healthy. I was tired of the image I saw in the mirror, and of seeing photos of myself. I had tried to lose weight before by watching what I ate and exercising. I would succeed — only to gain it back again. I needed to find a plan that worked and that I would stick to, and in order for that to happen it had to be easy.
Researching the details
The hardest part was making the decision to subscribe to Weight Watchers Online and start following the POINTS® Weight-Loss System. The plan itself turned out to be the easy part. Making a commitment to myself and keeping it was more difficult. A daycare provider at my son’s daycare was succeeding on the plan and raving about it. I thought, if she can do it, so can I. I'm extremely organized and like to have all the information on something, so the day I signed up and the weeks following were all about research. I explored everything on the Web site that I could; Community boards, recipes, food and POINTS values, until I knew it like the back of my hand.
As I learned the details of the plan I realized that I was enjoying the process immensely. Any question that I had or help that I needed I could throw out to the fabulous online Community and find answers and tips. What a fantastic group of strangers, coming together for one goal.
A family affair
The support and encouragement from my husband and two boys was, and to this day is, amazing. Every day my kids would ask, “how many POINTS values is that mom?" I loved watching them absorb the knowledge of healthier choices. It has impacted their young lives and I feel great about helping them be healthier and more active. It has taught them about portion control and proper nutrition which will benefit them throughout their lives.
One of my favorite changes along the way was the addition of regular activity to my day. When I started the plan my husband and I started walking around the neighborhood together three to four times a week. We discovered a dual benefit: exercise and a little time to ourselves! Since then I have also started kickboxing two to three times a week. I love the changes I see in my body from the exercise.
All these months later I am still an avid fan of the Web site and am on it all day every day. It has been a key part of my maintenance. I still track my food and activity every day and marvel at all the site has to offer. My advice to anyone thinking about getting started is to do it today. You will never regret the choice.
| Dale’s Tips |
- Eat all your POINTS values, every day. You need to eat to lose weight.
- I saved my weekly POINTS Allowance for the weekend to enjoy a nice dinner out and a glass of wine! Also, I never ate my activity POINTS values, but you can if you need them.
- If you hit a plateau, mix up your foods, change what you eat for breakfast. Your body gets used to burning the same calories every day.
- Don’t give up! If you have a bad day, just move on and get back on the plan.
- Get a subscription to Weight Watchers Magazine. I love mine, and read it cover to cover. It keeps me motivated and reminds me of my goal!
- Maintaining is possible, just remember what you learned on the plan. Sometimes I find myself a little more relaxed while maintaining. If I am to gain a couple pounds, I just get myself back on the plan and off they come.
